Happy October!
October brings the change of season and it really feels like fall. The cool, crisp air, mums, falling leaves, apples, pumpkins, cider and maple syrup. There’s no better time to be in New England! It’s also a great time to come indoors and pull out your sewing machine!
October also makes me realize that I need to decide on any holiday projects I’d like to finish up or start making. I love to give hand made gifts for the holidays that are useful and somewhat easy to make! Our Tea Towel apron kits make great hostess gifts. The Easy striped table runner is a quick and fun project for any striped fabrics. Since the Osaka bag was such a big hit, we are offering it again in November.
If you are more adventurous, you may be interested in the T-shirt Quilt class or the Three yard quilt class. Many of the Quilt as you go projects are simple to follow and fun to create! We are offering the Venice placemat and Tree skirt this fall. If you have particular projects to work on and need a little guidance, then our Guided Sew would be a great option. Open Quilt classes are also offered in between our class sessions if you’d like a little help finishing up that quilt.
Our first session of Fall classes is already half way through and we have just posted our Fall 2 classes for November & December. However, we are most excited to offer a class about fitting. In Fitting the Standard Sheath we will measure and adapt the bodice, skirt and sleeve to your measurements. This analysis of your body will help you troubleshoot future patterns. I highly recommend this class to anyone that can never find clothes that fit just right and enjoys making garments. We will continue to add workshops for Friday afternoons as they have been extremely popular. We’ve also updated our website to make it easier to find classes under the Sewing or Quilting drop down menu!
Our Sewing for a Cause sessions have started up again and we are currently making pillowcases for Hasbro Children’s Hospital. If you would like to join us, please call ahead. We meet on Wednesday mornings from 10am-12pm. If you are more comfortable sewing at home, we have lots of fabric cut and ready to go. Just stop by and pick up a few kits then bring them back when you are finished.
Wickford has many events in October. October 13th brings our final Harbor Lights for 2022. Wicked Week kicks off with the Witches Paddle on October 23rd, Spooky Sip and Stroll is October 27th, the Horibbles parade is on October 29th, and a cemetery tour with Tim Cranston on October 30th. Check out our scarecrows and bring the kids to trick or treat in the shops from October 29th-31st.
Although I am not in the classroom as much now, I have been behind the scenes working on projects for next year. If there is anything you’d like to see us offer please let me know. In any case, we hope to see you soon and don’t forget to post your creations and tag @thesewopri (Instagram) and @thesewop (Facebook).
Happy Sewing!
